Matthew Wood (LAW '08)
Matthew is a Police Constable with the Toronto Police Service. He is a member of the Primary Response Unit responding to 911 calls for service. He has also been employed with the Canadian Forces Army Reserve since 2002 and currently holds the rank of Sergeant.
Matthew enrolled in the Police Foundations program in 2004 and played varsity rugby with the College for two seasons while the Seneca Rugby Club was undefeated. He took a leave from school in 2006 to go on tour with the Canadian Forces. He served in Kandahar, Afghanistan for six months as part of the Psychological Operations team, and his battle group was awarded the distinction of the Governor General’s Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation for their actions on tour. Matthew was also selected as the 32 Canadian Brigade Group Soldier-of-the-Year in 2009.
Matthew returned to Seneca in 2007 and graduated from his program in 2008. After graduation, he worked for the Canadian Forces Battle School until 2010, instructing on multiple recruit courses. He has also worked for Scotiabank’s Global Security Operations Centre, and with TD Bank as part of the Global Security & Investigations team.
Astha Tamang-Maskey (IMP '08)
Singer-songwriter, Astha Tamang-Maskey is a rising new talent in the Canadian independent music scene. Since graduating from Seneca College’s Independent Music Production program, she has released two albums without the financing or support of a major studio label.
Her 2009 debut album Sabai Thikai Huncha (Everything is Going to be Okay), which was released in Nepal, generated two number one hit singles, a nomination for best rock vocal performance and rave reviews from Nepali music critics. Back in Toronto now, Astha just released her debut English album – 11:11, which she is on tour promoting.
Meghann Meadowcroft (GAS '08)
Meghann credits Seneca for giving her the tools to help advance academically and in her career. She spent several years working as a veterinary assistant in the GTA before finding a similar role in Whitehorse, Yukon. She is currently enrolled in the Yukon Native Teacher Education Program at Yukon College, in conjunction with the University of Regina, expecting to complete her studies in 2016/17.
Meghann has flourished as an artist in the Yukon, opening a painting business, Northern Fox Canvases, and funding her education by selling her work. She is also working as a lead cargo agent for Air North Yukon’s Airline.
Rita Louise Potestio (CRTA '08)
After receiving her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society and Women’s Studies from York University, Rita then furthered her studies and attended Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology to obtain the Court and Tribunal Agent Diploma. Along with acquiring her diploma, Rita was also able to obtain an Alternate Dispute Resolution Certificate (ADR) in order to assist in mediation matters. Rita subsequently completed her Paralegal work placement with Kevin Fox whom she then began working full time for in November of 2008. Rita successfully completed her Paralegal Licensing exam in January of 2009 and became a proud member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Rita is also a commissioner for taking affidavits.
Deyschairre Rodriguez Weizmann (CES '08)
Deyschairre graduated from Seneca with high honours obtaining a certificate in Esthetics and knowledge in areas such as, Microdermabrasion; Electrical Micro Current Facial Therapy; High Frequency Facial Care; Manicure, Pedicure and Body Treatments.
With additional education including Health Care Practitioner in Anatomy Cadaver Study, Physiology, Neurology, Medical Acupuncture, Nutrition and Wellness Studies, and backgrounds in Business Administration, International Business, Business Law and Spa Management, Ms. Weizmann opened Health & Happiness offering Esthetics and Wellness Therapies.
Deyschairre enjoys helping people stay healthy and happy through fitness, wellness, and salon and spa services and hopes to open a second location in downtown Toronto.
Chandrasekar Thyagarajan (TLC '08)
Chandrasekar was working with Expedia until 2014 when he decided to change careers and became a supervisor at a financial firm. Currently, he is a self-employed education consultant with his company hi5 Consultants.
He found Seneca to be an amazing experience as an international student, working in the SSF as a student ambassador at Markham and Newnham Campus and taking on outside volunteer opportunities including TIFF in 2009/10.
Khesrau Ahmadi (LCK '08)
To complement his Seneca Law Clerk diploma, Khesrau holds a Bachelor’s (Hons) degree and Master’s degree from York University with an expected Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa in 2016. Khesrau is also working at the Legal Aid Ontario, Integrated Legal Services Office. His career goal is to practice in immigration, commercial and real estate law.
