Overview

Designed to supplement the CIFFA Advanced Certificate, this program provides more in-depth knowledge of customs laws and regulations from both an industry and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) perspective. Exposure to CBSA legislation, procedures and documentation, as well as customs brokerage procedures and international logistics, will give graduates advanced skill sets to further their careers. This program is offered through online study.

CIFFA Advanced Certificate graduates can apply for Transfer Credits for the above courses by submitting proof of CIFFA Certificate completion (Transcript or Certificate).

Customs and Immigration
Availability
 

This course provides the student with an understanding of Canada Customs as it pertains to the duties of the Canada Border Services Officer and the Customs Act, as it relates to the movement of persons and goods in and out of Canada. In addition, the student will be provided with an understanding of Employment and Immigration Canada as it relates to the administration and enforcement of the Immigration Act and the regulations, with particular emphasis on the admissibility and inadmissibility of persons entering Canada.

Communications

This course focuses on the enhancements of communication skills frequently used by law enforcement officers. Students write notebook entries and complete forms and reports following guidelines used by law enforcement agencies.

Transborder and Customs Procedures
Availability
 

This course focuses on the rules and regulations of the Canada Border Services Agency. The main focus is on the principles of tariff classification, duties and taxes due on importations, as well as the documentation required to trade goods into Canada.

Certificate Requirements

Proof of completion of CIFFA Certificate required prior to enrolling in courses. Certificate must be emailed to Emiliano.Introcaso@senecacollege.ca at time of enrollment.

Graduation

If you meet all program requirements and become eligible for a Certificate, Diploma or Degree you must inform the Registrar by completing a Graduation Application form and paying the fee. Forms are available at the Registration office and online.

Certificates and diplomas are issued twice a year: Fall (October) and Spring (June). Graduation Application forms must be received no later than July 31 (for Fall Convocation), November 30 or March 31 (for Spring Convocation).

Minimum Performance for Graduation

Students will only be eligible to graduate with a Seneca College certificate or diploma if they have maintained an overall good standing in their current program of study. Students in degree programs will be eligible to graduate when they have obtained an average of C (2.5 GPA) in courses in the main field of study, and an average of C (2.0 GPA) in all other courses.
