College/University Prep - Science

Overview

Are you interested in enrolling in a college or university program, but need to upgrade your academic qualifications? The College/University Prep classes prepare students to meet academic requirements for entry into college and applied degree level programs.

Biology, chemistry and physics courses offered at the 091 level satisfy the science entry requirements for most college level programs, while 198 level courses satisfy the entry requirements for most applied/collaborative degree programs. (Note that the prerequisites for these 198 level courses are often the 091 level courses.)

If you are interested in applying to an institution other than Seneca, and you don't have the required high school credits, then the prerequisites required can be from college courses taken over 2 semesters, such as intro and advanced biology (BIO091 and BIO198), etc. These will be considered as Grade 12U equivalents, but they are not Ministry of Education approved credits. Therefore, keep the course outlines and addenda for case-by-case reviews.

Courses

BIO091
Biology
Availability

Prerequisite(s):

Grade 11 or higher math skills required

This course is intended for students wishing to enter practical nursing or other health sciences/health care programs. The student will become familiar with the scientific knowledge of the human body necessary to recognize, accept and use the important principles in all phases of study in the health sciences.

Please note: This course is no longer acceptable as a science option required to enter nursing at the BScN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) level.

BIO198
Advanced Biology
Availability

Prerequisite(s):

BIO091 (grade B or higher) or Grade 11 C/U Biology

In this advanced course, students engage in a theoretical and practical investigation of the concepts and processes of biological systems. Areas of study include cellular metabolism, gene expression and regulation, genetic inheritance, evolution, and a detailed exploration of the anatomy and function of different organ systems to homeostasis. This course prepares students for post-secondary level studies of the life sciences and its related fields.
This course contains equivalent content to SBI4U, but it is not a ministry approved credit.
