The English Language Proficiency Recognition of Achievement - Intermediate builds on the foundational skills of speaking and writing as well identifying specific pronunciation issues.

ESL049 or English Assessment

Students learn how to:

  1. Express actions happening in the past, present and future
  2. Use first, second, and third conditionals
  3. Express actions using simple past or present perfect or present perfect continuous
  4. Describe actions using modal verbs
  5. Communicate at an appropriate level in spoken English through class activities and active participation

Speaking English Level VI

ESL059 or English Assessment

Students learn how to:

  1. Express actions happening in the past, present, and future
  2. Use narrative tenses
  3. Use modal, phrasal, and reporting verbs
  4. Use first, second, and third conditionals
  5. Communicate at an appropriate level in spoken English through class activities and active participation

Composition III

Prerequisite(s):

ESL932 or English Assessment

In this course, students will review paragraph development and move towards a five paragraph essay. The focus will be on prewriting activities, the essay outline, development of a strong thesis statement, supporting paragraphs with clear topic sentences, appropriate support and details, and an effective conclusion. Grammar instruction will be included to enable students to identify errors and edit accordingly. Critical thinking skills will be developed through analysis of readings, summaries and group discussions.

ESP808
Accent Reduction - Intermediate
Availability
 

Prerequisite(s):

Intermediate level ESL speaker

This intermediate level Accent Reduction course is designed for students who may have difficulty communicating clearly and effectively in spoken English. The course helps students with accent reduction through the identification of specific pronunciation problems. In this level, students learn correct pronunciation of English vowel and consonant sounds, as well as spelling patterns through the use of an English dictionary.

Completion

Recognition of Achievement

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, please submit a Request for Recognition of Achievement Form to the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. There is no cost for this and your Recognition of Achievement will be sent to you electronically.
