Overview

Students learn to use conversational grammar in everyday situations, including reacting and responding within a Canadian cultural context. Speaking, listening and decision making skills are developed through guided practice, communicative activities and presentations.

To enrol in an English or ESL course at Seneca each student must have an English Assessment.

Students learn how to:

  • describe activities in the past, present or future using basic sentences
  • express ability, possibility and make polite requests
  • make comparisons using comparatives and superlatives
  • describe people, objects and actions using simple sentences with 2 or 3 adjectives.

Speaking English Level 3

Prerequisite(s):

ESL029 or English Assessment

Students learn how to:

  • express actions happening in the past, recent past, future and present
  • express and respond to promises, assurances and refusals
  • express "ability" and "permission" using appropriate modals
  • differentiate between situations that require suggestions or advice and respond accordingly
  • compare past and present with "used to"

Students learn how to:

  • express events happening in the past, recent past, continuous, future and now using well formed descriptive sentences
  • express preferences and necessity
  • state expectations and future possibility
  • use adverbs and adjectives in the comparative, equative and superlative forms
  • use gerunds and infinitives.
