Overview

Web Analytics is the science of collecting, analyzing, and making data-informed decisions with the goal of optimizing an organization's digital ecosystem and supporting business processes. Through this process, organizations capture data from websites, social media, mobile applications, Internet of Things (IoT), or third party sources to help inform business decisions.

Web Analytics has become an integral part of core business strategies, workflow optimization, and maintaining a competitive edge. Executives are switching more of their marketing budgets online, resulting in a growing need for tech-savvy business-oriented individuals who can help companies leverage their online presence for maximum benefit and ROI.

This program is targeted towards existing and aspiring web analysts, marketing analysts and marketing specialists looking to transition their career into, or expand their expertise in, the field of web analytics and digital marketing measurement.

Upon completion of this program, you will know the fundamental concepts of web and social media analytics, measuring content marketing, best practices in SEO and SEM, and will be able to apply this knowledge in common scenarios. The course will also provide tips and techniques for leveraging the Google Analytics platform, as well as other relevant tools.

Introduction to Web Analytics

Prerequisite(s):

Good working knowledge of computers/internet, familiarity with internet browsers and social media platforms, some understanding of web design, html and/or java script programming will be an asset but not required.

In this introductory course, students learn about the importance of compiling, analyzing and reporting on website data to drive business objectives. Topics include: website tracking methodologies (past/present/future), the science and art of online measurement and visitor behavior analysis, and reporting on results. Students are introduced to Google Analytics, web metric reporting, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for tracking online business performance.

Online Marketing

Prerequisite(s):

WOA100

In this course students learn about the various forms of online marketing, campaign measurement and optimization strategies to help marketing managers maximize their advertising budgets. A further dive into Google Analytics will be performed for campaign tracking and analysis, along with keyword research, pay-per-click (PPC) campaign development and execution using a live Google Adwords account. Online marketing (including email marketing) concepts and best practices will be heavily discussed.

In this course students learn about ongoing website, email, and marketing optimization through A/B testing and usability surveys; implementation of SEO best practices and tactical methods to improve search engine rankings, website submission to search engines, how to write effective articles & press releases, and the use of Google Analytics and other competitive tools to understand keyword performance and to make data-driven optimization decisions.

In this course students learn about the fundamentals of social media, how to identify metrics and measure social media, emerging web 2.0 technologies, and tips to help jump-start your web analytics career. Advanced Google Analytics hacks, metrics, and techniques will also be discussed.
