CAB425 - Visual Communication II

In this advanced Visual Communication subject the student will continue to develop the skills required by Art Directors while utilizing their concept and copywriting skills. Focus will be placed on taking your creative concepts and layout design to the next level while developing new ideas and visuals for magazine ads, posters, billboards, TV commercials and new media platforms that will persuade someone to buy something utilizing visual images. 
 
The subject explores visual management issues affecting Art Directors in complex projects/campaigns that require the direction of photographers, designers, and illustrators. Students will focus on improving layout and concept abilities within layout, typography, colour theory and desktop skills to prepare your work to become portfolio ready.

CAB450 - Your Career Launch

This new subject is where the final process of the student's career planning and networking becomes reality. Through direct industry field placement or independent projects, the student becomes part of a company as an active apprentice on-the-job. Students become part of an advertising team - utilizing their academic skills and developing new professional interpersonal and teamwork proficiency. Important feedback is provided by active members of the advertising profession to help the student further scrutinize the potential roles they might play within the industry. This subject is designed to meet the needs of both students who are pursuing Internships and those who are in need or direction for a future career launch.

CAB460 - Advanced Media Planning

This subject is designed for students selecting the " Strategic Stream" to develop a detailed understanding of media planning on multiple levels. Topics will include factors affecting the media budget, scheduling, ratings, plus career opportunities in media planning and media research.  In addition, students will be introduced to and employ research data from Vividata), A.C. Nielsen Media Research, Television Bureau (TVB), C.O.M.B., IAB and Comscore in the development of an Integrated Marketing Communications Strategy and Plan.

CAB462 - Public Relations and Event Planning

This subject will introduce the Creative Advertising student to the business and practice of public relations and event planning. Students will learn how to apply their strategic and creative thinking to this particular form of communication, as it is used by clients in their overall marketing mix, and as it is integrated with advertising and sales promotion activity.

CAB470 - Account Management

This subject will provide the student with the opportunity to understand the role of account management within the overall advertising agency environment, and specifically the relationship between account services and the other agency departments. Students will also have the opportunity to understand how the account executive interfaces with the client organization, and what are the specific job functions and responsibilities.

CAB472 - Business Management - Direct Response

In this subject students in the "Business Stream" are provided with an opportunity to understand the role and function of an account executive in the direct response field both from the client and agency perspective. It will cover the main issues of direct marketing management including: the types of companies that utilize direct marketing in their marketing mix; the products and services that sell best through direct marketing; the process of effective selling via direct marketing as opposed to general advertising; strategic planning, database decision variables, media planning, list selection and segmentation

FPL408 - Field Placement/Independent Project

Field placement is a self-directed practical subject that provides the student with experience and work within the industry for a minimum of 100 - 150 hours before graduation. Students who do not meet the following requirements will, with the approval of the faculty develop an independent project in a specific area of study.

This subject is a pre-requisite for graduation.
