CAD202 - Fashion Computer Aided Design

This subject will introduce students to the use of CAD software commonly used in the Fashion Design industry to produce illustrations, technical drawings, prints and inspiration boards.

This subject provides the student with knowledge of standard industrial sewing techniques used in the construction of shirts and dresses. Understanding the order of operations as well as maintaining a high quality of workmanship will be the basis for evaluation.

DSW220 - Fashion Design II

This subject explores the basic elements and principles of garment design at the research and drawing stage. The student further develops skills in the production of working drawings designed to convey structural information of garments, expand their knowledge and terminology of fashion design and styling, and engages in fashion research, forecasting and colour theory as it applies to the subject.

FSH200 - Evolution of Fashion

Fashion designers and retail brands must understand the cyclical nature of fashion and the influence of historic periods on current trends. The political, economic, social, and technological factors that are catalysts for change are explored as well as the origins of the Euro-centric fashion system. This encourages students to be mindful of inclusivity and decolonization in the work they produce.

PTW210 - Intermediate Pattern Making

Pattern Making II builds on the skills learned in Pattern Making I. Emphasis is on precise pattern drafting skills in producing patterns within preset time constraints following manufacturing and fit standards. Students will be introduced to more advanced pattern techniques for styling of the neckline and collar treatments, sleeves and dresses. They will build on these skills by producing a dress pattern to reflect a technical drawing of their original design.

TXF212 - Textiles I

 Textile study investigates fibres: natural, cellulosic, protein and inorganic.  The student will learn how the fibres used in apparel fabrics affect performance in use.  Fabric selection and behaviour is analyzed in reference to cost, care and suitability to end use based on fibre content.  The dyeing, printing and felting of specific fibres will be studied and practiced.
