Subject Title
Accounting: Career Planning

Subject Description
This subject enables students in their final semester to compile a database of personal information, company research, and current job market trends, in accounting and related fields, which will assist them in conducting a successful job search. In addition to exploring the skills and qualities essential to obtaining a position in their chosen career, students will prepare a career development campaign which will consist of sample applications of employment; resumes and cover letters; practice interviews; and follow-up techniques. The importance of office etiquette in the workplace will also be discussed. Students will be shown how to keep their business network alive and how to retain and build on their initial database.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Create a cover letter and resume that links personal, education and work experience to employability skills in relevant industries in order to apply for jobs through traditional job search techniques. 

2. Develop a job search strategy that aligns to personal goals and industry requirements in order to lead  self-directed career strategies. 

3. Apply Business communications skills and participate in mock and informational  interviews to further enhance students employability. 

4. Develop a professional social media strategy in order to build a personal brand presence online. 

5. Network with individuals within the marketplace to enhance communication, understand employers need and build networking opportunities.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
