The fragrance industry represents a significant percentage of sales within the cosmetics industry. This area of specialization sees the launch of numerous fragrances and line extensions for men and women every year. Students are taught how to effectively recommend, sell, merchandise and promote fragrance.

COB341 - Cosmetics Entrepreneurship and Event Planning

The role of the cosmetician in the beauty business requires the development of an entrepreneurial spirit. Cosmeticians are involved in the many stages of event planning and must understand what is involved in the development and execution of a successful promotional event. Students will prepare a business plan for a proposed event, retail operation or free-lance business.

COS224 - Skin Care II

Students will be taught the effects of biological aging on the skin and develop the ability to distinguish among dry, dehydrated and aging skin conditions. How to perform advanced skin treatment procedures and demonstrate appropriate skin care selling techniques for customers in a retail environment will also be studied.

COS313 - Special Effects Make-Up Techniques

Students will be introduced to the realm of three dimensional special effects makeup for film, television and stage productions.  A variety of techniques will be studied including casualty and appearance altering makeup effects.  This enables the student to solve practical situations for creating character makeups in different media.

COS322 - Editorial and Airbrush Makeup Techniques

The student will be taught makeup application techniques for high fashion colour and black and white photography. The theory of professional lighting, basic photo shoot styling and etiquette will also be taught.  An introduction to airbrushing for day, evening/glamour, bridal, television/video and film will also be included as an additional tool for the professional makeup artist's skill set.
