DAT702 - Introduction to Databases

Through theoretical lectures, hands-on laboratory exercises and group project work, students will
learn to work with Database Management Systems such as MySQL and SQL Server. Students will
gain knowledge of the various components of a Relational Database Management System. Students
will learn how to use Structured Query Language (SQL) to query data and manage a database.

DCN386 - Advanced Data Communications Technology

This course is the second in a series of comprehensive courses in the field of Telecommunications and Data Communications. The course introduces students to rudimentary network design through the configuration of switches, routers and other networking devices. In this course, students begin by reviewing Data Communication and its various concepts and technologies. It then focuses on Enhanced Switching and Routing Techniques, WAN Technologies and Network Security.

EAC397 - Business Report Writing

This business communications course for Computer Studies students builds on the written and oral communications, teamwork, personal management and critical thinking skills developed in earlier courses in the CPA/CPD/CPAC/CNS/CTY programs.
 
Through team and individual projects with a program focus, students will learn the essentials of career management, as well as practise the skills that they will need in the workplace to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and management.

OPS335 - Open System Application Server

This subject teaches the maintenance and administration of a UNIX server using Linux. Students will learn to install and upgrade the operating system software, set up user accounts, manage current files systems, back up and restore files, install and configure servers, modify system start-up sequences, administrate common services and modify basic network configurations.

OPS435 - Open System Automation

This is an introductory programming course designed specifically for system and network administrators. Students will learn generally-applicable programming concepts and techniques using the Python programming language. Following an introduction to fundamental programming principles the students will write software to automate deployment and configuration tasks over a network.

WIN310 - Microsoft Windows Network Infrastructure

This course is for those who will be responsible for installing, configuring, managing and supporting a network infrastructure that uses Microsoft Windows Server products. Basic TCP/IP, along with TCP/IP applications will be covered. TCP/IP security as well as remote access and Internet related Windows Server configurations will be taught using lectures and hands-on exercises.
