DMA244 - Video II for Multimedia

This course is a practical introduction to the complete production cycle of video. Beginning with a basic introduction to the handling of basic production equipment, topics covered include: using the camera, framing and shooting techniques, approaching subjects, video formats, lighting, sound, editing with a non linear editing package, digital post-production and mastering. The course also includes an introduction to the use of video production with non-video digital media applications and efficient file conversion for online formats. This overview is approached as a simulated professional project, and includes an overview of project management and budgeting techniques.

DMA333 - Career Preparation

This course enables students to make a smooth transition from an academic to a work environment. Students are required to prepare a resume, self-promotional materials, portfolio pieces, and understand how to customize these presentations for various audiences. With an emphasis on self-marketing and assessment, Career Preparation also provides hands-on experience for job interviewing skills, entrepreneurial and self-employment skills, including a basic knowledge of intellectual property principles. Industry speakers are brought in to give students hands-on practical career advice.

DMA344 - Introduction to 3D

Introduction to 3D is a hands-on course which provides a basic understanding of the creation of 3D elements and how to animate them in 3D space. Working with 3DS Max, the course is designed for students who want to gain skills in 3D graphics without necessarily specializing in the field. In addition to creating 3D sequences for standalone purposes, students will also gain knowledge of the integration of 3D graphics into other media such as editing and composition software.

DMA355 - Advanced Flash

The second of three Flash courses in the DMA program, Advanced Flash uses the concepts introduced in DMA 205 (Introduction to Flash) to further develop students' skills in the use of Flash, with an emphasis on high-quality production values and intermediate interactivity programming using advanced action scripting techniques. Students will engage in a major assignment which requires them to use their skills in storytelling and design know-how to create a written proposal and production of a strong portfolio piece integrating narrative and interactivity.Pre-requisite: DMA 205

Web Design 2 - Design & Development
 
This subject focusses on Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress and phpBB3 as they relate to use as ?dynamic' websites, portfolio & photo showcases & galleries, ecommerce sites and blogs. Their use as support and ?community' bulletin boards/forums is also examined.
The subject teaches the basic knowledge and ability to install self-hosted CMS sites and modify and change the layouts, and themes/styles of WordPress and phpBB3 based sites. Additionally, they will learn the use of specific powerful plugins and scripts that change and add to the design, layout and functionality of the sites and add social media links and content, contact forms, and event calendars.
An understanding of the role and use of a MySQL database and PHP in Content Management Systems is also included in the curriculum.
The final project is converting an HTML/CSS website into a WordPress theme; it is then installed and tested to examine the differences between a dynamic CMS web site and a static HTML/CSS web site.
