EAC150 - College English

College English is an introductory college writing and reading course fundamental to successful college studies. Through a variety of assignments and classroom activities, students will strive to develop the rhetorical and analytical skills essential to their success as communicators in college and upon graduation. Fiction and non-fiction will be a central vehicle for teaching writing.

PRE-REQUISITES: EAC149, EAP500, ESL934, ELI Level 8 or placement based on a Seneca College English Skills Assessment

ICA001 - Introduction to Computers and Applications

In this subject students are introduced to the use of computer systems, a microcomputer operating system (MS Windows), and the following business applications: MS Word for word processing, MS PowerPoint for business presentations, and MS Excel  for spreadsheets. The student will use Windows to effectively operate a personal computer, access various Seneca computer systems, prepare word documents, create business presentations, and develop spreadsheets.

RTF164 - Principles of Design

This subject will introduce the student to the elements and principles of design, including theories of colour, colour harmonies and colour psychology. Post-harvest care and costing of floral designs are included, as well as an overview of the floral industry. Guest speakers and field trips provide valuable insight, information and feedback.

RTF167 - Client Services

In this subject the Floral Design Student will learn how to deal with the needs of clients on a one-to-one basis. The "features and benefits" method of selling will be explored. Telephone and online sales techniques designed to meet the various needs of both the customer and the retailer are dealt with in depth. The art of product presentation and the development of a sales plan are an integral part of this subject.

RTF169 - Floral Design Lab

In this subject, the student will experience the practical application of the elements and principles of design through the creation of several basic design styles. The development of corsages and simple wedding bouquets will complete this section. Classic and sustainable styles and techniques will be explored in this segment. The continuation of in-depth hands-on design sessions will help the student to become more proficient in the creation and production of arrangements and bouquets.

RTF172 - Floral Design Explorations

Traditional and contemporary floral techniques and design styles will be explored. In depth design sessions in European design are major components of this subject.

The fundamentals of sketching are introduced, from basic geometric shapes to renditions of floral forms, including the development of completed designs and event and costing concepts.
