EAC409 - Print Journalism

This subject introduces students to the basic fundamentals of Journalism. Students will learn the basic interviewing, writing and researching skills of a journalist. Theory and practice will come together to give students a comprehensive understanding of Canadian Journalism. Students will learn to write both hard news and soft news stories while attaining a comprehensive understanding various news beats within the community.

IDP302 - Digital Imaging III

Students will build through a series of projects, portfolio images in the digital imaging realm. Techniques for advanced compositing, editing, and retouching will be covered. Images for editorial, advertising, marketing, and annual reports will be produced. Image management techniques will be incorporated into the work-flow for all projects.

IDP303 - Photography Business III

Small business principles and practices for photographers, including bookkeeping, keeping records, taxes, time management and organization skills. Contract law, image rights management and professional associations will be covered in depth. Students will be required to create a business plan, learn how to form a company and register for HST.

IDP304 - Self Promotion and Portfolio Building

Students will be introduced to the preparation and development of a Traditional (print) and Digital (online) Photography Portfolio.
 
The method used is review and critique of each student's work on an individual basis. During this process we will highlight their strengths & individuality to create appropriate branding,
establish their target market and produce a professional portfolio.
 
Students will also review and prepare self-promotion materials such as: business cards, letterhead, leave behinds, website, and other items.

IDP311 - Photography III

People Photography. Studio and Location.
In IDP311, the emphasis shifts to photographing people.  Through demonstrations and in-class practice, students will learn a series of classic lighting patterns and ratios, This will learn how they can affect the shape of a face through their choice of lighting. As part of the in-studio lighting portion of the course students will also learn how to light a background and how to build a full lighting setup including main light, fill light, background light, rim or edge light and hair light.  As a part of the location portion, students will learn about Fill Light, Mixed Lighting and using Studio Flash on location.

IDP405 - Pro Seminar in IDP

Each week, guest speakers from within the photographic industry will come and speak to the students. For each speaker, students will be required to research the speaker or topic and develop three questions to ask the speaker. During 4 classes distributed throughout the semester, the students will discuss the previous weeks speakers and how the topics discussed relate to their individual future career goals.
