Subject Title
EJB Architecture and J2EE

Subject Description
The popularity of the new enterprise architecture J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) has resulted in the demand for programmers who can plan and develop EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans) components. This subject will emphasize the development of reusable J2EE components and also provide a comprehensive coverage of EJB architecture. Topics covered in this subject will include J2EE architecture and a brief review of web components: Servlets, JSPs. Technologies that are more relevant to EJB like: XML (Extensible Markup Language), JMS (Java Message Service), etc. will also be studied but a particular emphasis will be placed on the design, architecture and development of EJBs. The course will present a set of advanced skills necessary to implement session, entity and message driven beans and common EJB design pattern will be defined in implementing an enterprise application.

Credit Status
This is a credit subject applicable towards certificates and diplomas in the Computer Studies credit program as outlined in the Computer Studies Program Information Package.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Design and implement components like: Session, Entity, MDB EJBs.

2. Understand the multi-tier architecture of web-based enterprise applications using Enterprise JavaBeans.

3. Integrate Servlets, JSPs with EJB and Databases in J2EE application.

4. Understand the deployment descriptor and enterprise application deployment.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
