FCA454 - Fashion and CAD

This course will introduce students to the process of using CAD and digital imaging software for fashion product development. Students will explore the various stages of product development and design. Colour stories, swatch boards, seasonal information, and inspiration boards will be created to support the products developed. Research will focus on targeting specific consumer demographics within the marketplace, and creating garment lines that will appeal to that target customer.

FPD451 - Product Development for a Circular Economy

This subject explores the process of product development from concept through to the production stage. It involves the study of fashion forecasting, colour theory, design principles, sourcing, costing and creating specification sheets.

FTX352 - Fabric Fundamentals II

Fabric fundamental provides a grounding in textile study.  Through labs, demonstrations and lectures, the student will discover the natural and man-made wonders that are part of this multifaceted and complex subject.  This second level of textile study investigates yarn, fabric construction, dyeing, printing and finishes - with emphasis on how each component affects fabric performance, cost and care.  Recognition and critical analysis of end use suitability of fibres, yarns, fabrics and finishes (including dyeing and printing) are expected at this level.

RMC561 - Fashion Marketing Communications

This subject examines the planning and management of an integrated marketing communications mix.  Components of the plan which include media advertising, direct response communications, interactive communications, sales promotions, public relations, event marketing and sponsorships, and alternative marketing will be explored.  Branding and the role it plays in marketing communications will be examined.

ROM400 - Organizational Management

The subject enables the student to discover how workplace organizations are designed and operate, how they function and respond to external and changing environments.  We will investigate organizational behaviour as it relates to performance management and motivation and explore the leadership/followership continuum.  Students will master techniques for effective career planning, job search, and interviews.

FPL400 - Field Placement

Students are required to gain practical experience in the fashion industry through paid or volunteer work placement. They must achieve a minimum of 150 hours of placement between the end of semester one through the end of semester four. Of the total, a minimum of 50 hours of work must be achieved in a retail store that sells products that can either be worn on the body or sell fashions for the home is mandatory. The remaining hours may be, in whole or in part, achieved in non-store work in a head office in marketing or merchandising functions, a sales agency or at industry events such as Fashion Weeks etc.
