FDP100 - Floral Design Portfolio

This subject focuses on the development of a Floral Design portfolio working with digital imagery software. Students will work from a personal library of captured images to produce images and explore both technical and esthetic problems.

FSH330 - Style and Trends

This subject addresses the evolving continuity of styles in fashion, architecture, art, and furniture design in the western world from their historical perspectives. Individuals within the fashion, floral and retail industry must understand and recognize the cyclical nature of changes in fashion and design. These various historical periods may be recognized through fashion styles, art, architecture, furniture, graphics, and font styles. This subject will provide an overview of several major design periods over the last three centuries and their influence on contemporary fashion and design. This subject will also explore the economic, political, social and technological conditions that influence fashion and style changes.

RTF262 - Botanicals

In this subject, the student will study plant classification, identification and plant physiology. Handling and care techniques for a large selection of tropical and house plants available to the consumer are included in the curriculum. Learning how to use the resources available to keep plants healthy, to price and to display plants will be of benefit to the student. Concentration on marketing plants for-profit on specific occasions within the Floral industry.

RTF264 - Floristry Theory

This subject will introduce the student to a variety of topics relating to the florist business such as visual merchandise presentation, funeral procedures, correct floral etiquette for weddings and other occasions calling for flowers, purchasing and merchandise control, history of flower arranging, floral associations and publications, and wire service organizations and cost charts. Throughout this subject students discuss current trends and issues in the florist industry.

RTF269 - Design for Special Events

This subject is a continuation of RTF169 in which new and advanced design styles will be explored and wedding designs for the ceremony and reception. In addition, a variety of bridal bouquets will be developed. Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to make suitable floral arrangements for any occasion in keeping with customer requests and within cost constraints.

RTF270 - Field Work Experience II

Field work reflects real work experience. The purpose of work experience is: to further skills development; to experience real work situations; to receive additional training and experience; to develop job contact (part time, full time) references.  Students will write an extensive report on their work experience.

RTF275 - Floral Artistry

New advanced floral techniques and design styles will be explored in this subject. In-depth design sessions will enable the student to experiment with new directions in Floral Artistry, using different textural materials as well as mixed media components.

RTF277 - Floral Design Concepts

This subject is a continuation of RTF162 in which new European design styles will be explored. A variety of advanced sympathy designs will be developed.
