Subject Title
The Flight Attendant

Subject Description
This subject is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of the airline industry with an emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of a flight attendant. In addition, the student will concentrate on the valued personality traits of a flight attendant, types of aircraft, as well as knowing and understanding the passenger.

Credit Status
This subject provides one credit towards the Travel and Tourism Studies Diploma - Flight Services, and the Flight Services Certificate.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Recount the Flight Attendant's historical background.
2. Discuss the Flight Attendant's job description including related personality traits.
3. Explain the relationship between policies and regulations with quality of the product.
5. Recognize the value of a uniform and appropriate Flight Attendant grooming.
6. Restate the Theory of Flight.
7. State the names and details of a variety of small aircraft.
8. Identify Canadian Airlines and employment opportunities, and use correct airline terminology.
10. Demonstrate the use of the 24-hour clock, city and airline codes, and the Phonetic Alphabet.
11. Identify specific airport layouts.
12. Recognize differences between specific cultures and how they affect Passenger and Crew interactions.
13. Dicuss the Travelling Passenger process.
14. Explain the value of a Transport Canada Security Pass
15. Apply specified dining etiquette and Flight Attendant courtesy and manners.
16. Explain the impact of unexpected change on passengers and crew.
17. Use correct business etiquette and adhere to professional standards of dress, hygiene and grooming.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
