Subject Title
Event and Meeting Management

Subject Description
In this subject, you will discover the world of event planning where planners create exciting events for the social and corporate markets. Topics include an introduction to program planning to building budgets; venue selection to function set-ups; promotion to program execution. You will build on your learning from previous subjects while developing new skills used in the event planning segment of the industry. The skills required to execute a successful event and meeting would be considered an asset to those seeking a career in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Travel industry. 
 
Students will complete the CLIA's, University Licensing Program (ULP) - MES (Meetings and Events at Sea Certification) in partnership with MPI (Meeting Planners International) which requires successful completion of four online modules. 
 
Students must purchase the access code from CLIA, Cruise Line International Association which will provide access to the MES (Meetings and Events at Sea Certification) online learning modules, quizzes, and tests. The fee is $55.00 USD and must be paid to CLIA directly at time of enrollment, registration is by credit card, and is nonrefundable, non-transferable, and non-endorsable. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Describe the scope of the event planning industry, including factors influencing growth and economic impact of events.

2. State the MNEs of social, corporate, and festival/cultural style events from the planner, supplier and attendee perspectives.

3. Describe the planner's role in arranging events and function space.

4. Explain the role of the venue and event facility in marketing, contracting, servicing, budgeting and forecasting.

5. Use the standard steps of the event planning process to create an event and meeting concept, including costing.

6. Demonstrate an understanding of elements of menu and decor design, service logistics and sustainability practices relevant to the staging of an event.

7. Describe the relevant websites, software and technology to assist in the event and meeting planning process.

8. Describe the skills and behaviors essential for employment in event planning positions and consider your own interest and suitability for these positions.

9. Apply interpersonal communication skills while working with colleagues and client in a meeting or event setting. 

10. Analysis and apply the importance of the CLIA-Meetings at Sea Certification Completion.

11. Create, cost, prepare and present a one-day meeting and a Meeting and Event at Sea.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
