PME230 - Environmental Law

The student will gain an understanding of the creation of environmental liabilities and environmental impediments to development and construction, the process to satisfy or remove liabilities by remediating or otherwise addressing environmental contamination, and the contracting process necessary to implement the remediation.  This will include the regulatory process necessary to confirm closure and to permit normal commercial mortgage financing for a remediated site.

PME240 - Civil Infrastructure

This course introduces various aspects of municipal infrastructure management including analytical methods, available and emerging technologies, and legislative frameworks involved in the decision-making process. The material will have a specific focus on sustainability, and strategic environmental assessment for infrastructure.  Elements presented will include roads, buildings, water networks, and sewer networks. The course will emphasize the use of emerging technologies, information systems, and decision-making tools that support the various elements of the asset management framework, including case studies.

PME260 - Business Principles II

Business managers are faced daily with a variety of problems and opportunities in finance, marketing, human resources, and operations management. In this course, participants explore typical business problems and use decision making models and problem solving strategies to resolve the issues. The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of an integrated and interrelational approach to business decision-making and problem solving. Building on a framework of qualitative and quantitative decision making concepts and tools, participants will be required to analyze business cases and situations, synthesize and apply their knowledge of Human Resources, Marketing, Finance and Operations Management to develop and recommend synergistic decisions in different business scenarios. In addition they would also be required to provide solutions to the various kinds of business problems faced by organizations.

PME400 - Applied Project Management II

Students participate in and complete an experiential learning opportunity with an appropriate external host organization. The student will gain Canadian workplace experience under the direction and guidance of a Project Management mentor. Students will also be monitored by a faculty member regarding their learning goals, expectations and experiences. During this semester the students are exposed to on-site scope, time, cost, quality, resources and procurement management practices and procedures.

PME808 - Environmental Risk Management

The course provides comprehensive knowledge and skills needed to apply appropriate risk management tools/techniques for successfully managing the risk of an environmental project. The course will cover risk management principles and concepts, and the project risk management processes as defined in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide 7th Edition), and described in Practice Standard for Project Risk Management published by the Project Management Institute.  Environmental risk management will include topics on risk assessment, risk management, environmental costs, and the use of quantitative techniques to evaluate risks and risk interactions including expected monetary value, simulation, and decision trees.
