Subject Title
Television: Sales, Marketing, and Management

Subject Description
In this subject, students learn the business strategies employed to effectively market, promote, evaluate and sell program concepts, commercial products and services. Attention will be paid to positioning and targeting audience profiles, ratings, programming, public relations, and commercial scheduling.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the significance of ratings' research, group influences in marketing, principles of advertising and public relations, commercial scheduling, audience size/composition/categories, copy testing, program promotion, and station positioning.
  2. Interpret station ratings and apply ratings' data to programming and sales decisions.
  3. Understand and be able to apply the vocabulary and mathematical equations of ratings data.
  4. Develop campaign assessment strategies such as surveys, focus groups, and campaign promotions.
  5. Relate agency job functions and responsibilities to comparable station (radio, television, and agency) positions.
  6. Confidently collect, collate, and re-apply industry research material concerning advertising, sales, and marketing projects. Students can then make a positioning-targeting strategy based upon their interpretation of the data.
  7. Apply industry vocabulary on copy research, test groups, and ratings data.
