Workplace - Attitudes and Motivation

Subject Description
This subject will explore leadership and the human side of management--values, qualities and attributes which are critical for success as determined by a study of outstanding leaders in North America. Some of these are: ethics, teamwork, honesty, curiosity, motivation, creativity, leadership, a sense of humor, risk taking and initiative. Experiential opportunities will furnish interactive and hands-on application in a variety of settings. The important transferable skills of communication, time management, maintaining a balanced life and decision making will continue to be developed during the semester.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Discover and understand your own personality style and those of others in order to relate effectively in a variety of situations.

2. Determine and develop your own values, qualities and attributes through investigation, experience and first-hand application

3. Investigate the value of mentoring and apply its principles in order to enhance your own education and that of others.

4. Prepare and conduct a seminar on preapproved topics - both individually and in groups.

5. Creatively research and present information professionally in a variety of formats, e.g., book and movie review and seminars.

6. Produce original material and activities to be used for motivational situations.

7. Understand and practice the values of initiative, creativity, humor and honesty.

8. Determine a challenging, personal goal and ambitiously strive to achieve it during the course of the semester while encouraging others to achieve their particular goals.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
