Subject Title
Introduction to Settlement Sectors

Subject Description
Working from an anti-oppression, trauma-informed approach, this course examines the various factors that shape the settlement and integration experiences of diverse migrant populations in Canada. Building on several topics discussed in WIR100, this course will highlight discourses of (re)settlement, integration, multiculturalism and neoliberalism, as we critically analyze the various necessary arenas of support accessed by diverse newcomer populations. Moreover, we will explore the role of settlement workers, service provider organizations, and other institutions and actors in facilitating such processes. Students will unpack how various identity factors (race, gender, class, immigration status, etc.) intersect to shape notions of self, belonging, and possibilities for the future.
