Civil Engineering Technology Mobile Intensive Learning Experience (M.I.L.E.) 2000
In May 2000, Luke Johnson (CET '84) joined professors Al Eppich, Bill Habkirk and nine students in the School of Civil Engineering Technology on a 21-day excursion across Europe. After responding to a notice in Alumni magazine, Luke, a Buildings Inspector with the City of Toronto, signed on with some trepidation; "I thought that with the ages of the students, I'd end up hanging out with my former professors for three weeks." Nothing could have been further from the truth, as this exuberant group taveled Europe from Amsterdam through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Monaco, and Switzerland, and returned to Canada after a final three days in Paris. The technical/cultural/educational adventure included visits to major European engineering projects and historical structures (the tower at Pisa and the Pont du Gard rehabilitation), a cultural encounter with students at Delft Technical University, cruises on the Seine and Rhine rivers, sun worshipping in Nice, viewing the Mona Lisa in Paris, the statue of David in Florence, and sampling Europe's fine cuising. "It was truly an experience of a lifetime and one that I will treasure," said Luke upon his arrival back in Canada. "The group was fantastic." We're interested to hear form our Alumni. Tell us what you're doing. E-mail your story to Bill Habkirk. |
