Student’s illustration to be featured in prestigious exhibition

Shaolei Zhang’s illustration “Chinese Zodiac – Rat”

The Society of Illustrators selected Independent Illustration student Shaolei Zhang’s illustration “Chinese Zodiac – Rat” to be included in its 2013 exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration in New York City, running from May 5 to June 9.

His entry was one of 250 pieces chosen from more than 8,000 submissions from illustration programs worldwide. A jury of professional peers, including illustrators and art directors, selected the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Pieces were accepted based on the quality of technique, concept, and skill of medium used.

All of the chosen illustrations will also be published in the Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship catalog.

The Society of Illustrators has held the Student Scholarship Competition every year since 1981. The Society’s mission is to promote the art of illustration, to appreciate its history and evolving nature through exhibitions, lectures and education.
