Students learn history from the people who lived it

Each year, Professor Rose Caruso welcomes World War ll and Korean Veterans, Canadian Forces military personnel and Holocaust survivors into her English for Academic Purposes classroom. To prepare for the speakers, the students are engaged in an “Amazing Race Time Machine” activity that engages intellectual curiosity to research historical events that connect to each speaker. Students are presently designing web-based projects for Veterans Affairs Canada that will be featured on their website to preserve and honor the legacy of all veterans and holocaust survivors past and present. It’s a personal journey for students to understand within academia the sacrifices and achievements of the veterans to give Canada its freedom and democracy. Photo gallery
