Alex Burke is the 2014 recipient of the Canadian Retail Hall of Fame Scholarship.
The Fashion Business Management student received $3,000 from the Retail Council of Canada, which launched the hall of fame scholarship this year to honour all those who have been inducted into the Canadian Retail Hall of Fame.
Alex was one of 25 postsecondary students from across Canada up for this inaugural award. All of the finalists received $1,000 from the Retail Council of Canada to put towards their tuition. Industry experts judged the students in three categories: academic performance, reference letters and a personal essay highlighting their experiences and educational pursuits in the retail industry.
The $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to students working in retail who are entering or currently enrolled in a retail-related program at a Canadian postsecondary institution.
Alex has one more year left in her program and currently works part-time at Hoi Bo Inc. — a designer clothing and handbag store in Toronto’s Distillery District.
In addition to the money she has won, Alex will receive an all-access pass, including travel and accommodation, to attend STORE 2014, where she will have the opportunity to meet with some of Canada's most prominent retail industry professionals.
