Conversational Chinese Courses

Overview

This series of Conversational Chinese courses has three stages — Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. Each stage is divided into two levels. These courses are for students who are interested in speaking the language and who want to improve their verbal skills in Chinese. Students will be given the opportunity to use their communication skills through classroom activities.

Conversational Chinese – Basic I (LGB071)

In this class, students learn greetings, introductions, holiday wishes, time and date, price, location, etc. They will also learn about Chinese culture. This class is open to those who have some Chinese language knowledge or have learned pinyin and numbers and would like to improve their everyday communication skills.

Conversational Chinese - Basic II (LGB072)

Conversational Chinese – Basic 2 is a continuation of Conversational Chinese – Basic 1. In this class, students are encouraged to speak freely and to develop their language skills through classroom activities. The course also covers cultural knowledge related to daily activities and etiquette.

Conversational Chinese - Intermediate I (LGB073)

Conversational Chinese – Intermediate 1 is for students who have mastered more than 200 commonly-used words and are comfortable with simple daily communication. This course aims to develop students’ listening and speaking skills. By the end of the course, students will have mastered more than 200 commonly-used words and have a good command of basic grammar and sentence structure. Students are encouraged to speak freely in class and to develop their language skills through classroom activities.

Conversational Chinese - Intermediate II (LGB074)

Conversational Chinese – Intermediate 2 is a continuation of Conversational Chinese – Intermediate 1. In this class, students should be able to master more than 200 commonly-used words and have a good command of grammar and sentence structure. Students are encouraged to use words, grammar and sentences to express their personal opinions or needs in related scenarios.

Conversational Chinese - Advanced I (LGB075)

Conversational Chinese – Advanced 1 is for the students who have mastered more than 600 commonly-used words. These students are able to take part in basic conversations and express their personal opinions and needs. This course develops students’ listening and speaking skills through a project-based method. This method allows students to not only learn Chinese but to use the language to complete applied project work or solve real-life problems. By the end of this course, students should be able to communicate with others in the workplace or in social situations and take part in conversations or express personal views clearly.

Conversational Chinese - Advanced II (LGB076)

Conversational Chinese – Advanced 2 is a continuation of Conversational Chinese – Advanced 1. In this class, students should be able to engage in conversation on general topics. Students will continue to be encouraged to use words, grammar and sentences to express personal opinions or needs and especially to discuss topics related to their employment or field.
