Program Description

This graduate certificate builds upon your existing education. With ETI, you’ll gain a highly marketable skill set that adds to your employability. Completion of this twosemester program will provide you with the additional knowledge and skills required for a career in the exciting field of environmental site assessment. Upon graduation, you’ll be well prepared for a rewarding career in the environmental sector.

Your studies will be focused primarily on the various stages of environmental site assessments as well as sampling techniques, with particular emphasis on soil and water contamination. In the second semester, you’ll be introduced to Canadian law and regulations in relation to the field. The program enables students from related disciplines to complete a graduate certificate in environment and site investigations in two semesters and assists in obtaining the CEAS designation “Certified Environmental Assessor of Sites” from the Canadian Environmental Certifications Approval Board (CECAB).

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have a related degree or diploma in the fields of applied science, engineering or engineering technology, or substantial completion thereof, and/or be a mature student with 3 to 5 years of documented work experience in a related field including references from relevant work experience.
  • English proficiency at the college/university level.
  • A facility for mathematics.
  • Superior communication and analytical skills.

Applicant Selection:

  • Prospective students may be required to undergo testing to assess literacy and mathematical skills.

The Importance of Learning Skills:

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills.

Your Career

Focus your skills. The two-semester Environment and Site Investigation graduate certificate program will prepare you for careers in many subdisciplines of environmental engineering. Upon graduation, you’ll be qualified to work as an Environmental Field Technician/Technologist, Lab Technician/Technologist, or an Environmental Occupational Health and Safety Technician. You’ll find career opportunities in businesses of all sizes, as well as in all areas of government and non-profit organizations.
