Modes of Instruction

This is a self-study ‘hybrid’ two hour per week subject in which one hour is spent independently completing online lessons, and one hour per week is spent in your regularly scheduled lab completing in-class assessments and tests.  A lab monitor is available in open lab periods to help you with the online lessons.

Term Test and Lab ASSESSMENTS

Test dates are disclosed under Important Due Dates.
There are no makeup tests unless you have a medical reason, or the students were notified otherwise.
If you have a medical reason you will need to present a medical document, in a prescribed format when required, to the Lab Monitor.
Please remember this information will be validated and if found to be false this will be deemed as academic dishonesty.

Modes of Evaluation

All students must provide their Seneca One-Card when writing a test or an assesment in ICA and may not bring any aids to the test.
There are four modules in ICA; PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Concepts.
Note: Students in the schools of Electronics and Computer Studies study Access instead of Concepts.
Students must achieve 70% on each module to pass ICA. Each module will have an online test using SimNet, as well as an in-class, hands-on assessment.  To pass a module, you must achieve a minimum grade of 70% on the in-class hands-on assessment as well as achieving a combined grade of 70% on the test plus the in-class, hands-on assessment.

For each module, the combined grade is determining using the following weights:
  • At-home SimNet test: 35%
  • In-class, hands-on assessment: 65%

Students will receive a grade of SAT or UNSAT on their transcript upon completion of this subject.

If ICA001 is a prerequisite for a subject in the program of study a student is pursuing, the student will not be allowed to take the subsequent subject until ICA001 is successfully completed.

The ICA grade calculator will help the students to determine whether they have passed each module or not.
It is the students resposibilty to know if they have passed each module, after reciving the marks, using the ICA Grade Calculator that is provided on the ICA website.
Students will be trained on how to use this tool at the biginning of the semester.
