Accessing Seneca Libraries Resources
Access to the electronic resources is bound by strict licensing agreements. Seneca Libraries must ensure that electronic resources are made available only to Seneca College students, staff, faculty, and to those located on-site at a Seneca College campus.

When you access Seneca Library digital resources off-campus, you will be prompted to log in using your My.Seneca account. One of the following login windows will appear:
Students must have a valid Seneca account to access Seneca Libraries' digital resources.
Once you have entered this information, you will be able to access and use the electronic resources in the same way you would at Seneca. Contact the ITS Service Desk for more information your activating or resetting your Seneca account.
Students: Student e-mail accounts are usually composed of the student's first initial, middle initial and up to six characters from the last name.

Faculty/Staff: Seneca staff accounts are usually composed of a user's first name followed by a period, then the last name.
for example: firstname.lastname
Due to license or vendor technical limitations, a few subject-specific research databases may not be available through direct remote access. These are indicated as follows:
When you use a computer outside of Seneca College to access library resources you may encounter issues. See below for some suggestions on how to troubleshoot your remote access.
1. If you cannot log in.
- Check the login screen - are you on a Seneca College / Seneca Libraries page?
- Make sure that you have entered your Seneca account and password correctly. You can check by logging into MySeneca.
- On the Seneca Libraries login screen, select the correct account type: Seneca Student (or Seneca Employee, for faculty and staff).
2. Check your browser and website.

If you accessing the resource from a framed environment (e.g., MySeneca), open the resource in a separate browser window.
For Internet explorer and Books24x7, make sure that *.senecac.on.ca and *.senecacollege.ca are added as Trusted Sites (Internet Options > Security).
3. Read the error message.
If you see an error message such as "Access Error", "Insufficient Credentials" or "You are attempting to access ProQuest from a page that has not been properly authorized", chances are that critical information (cookies, referring URL) required for remote access is blocked by your computer. Blocked cookies or firewalls are the two most frequent technical reasons for failure to connect to our resources outside of Seneca.
Make sure that your cookies are enabled in the browser
Check your browser's security settings to make sure that it accepts cookies.
ProQuest's Browser Health Check at http://www.proquest.com/en-US/support/bhc/default.shtml checks your cookies and other browser settings.

Make sure that your referral URLs are not blocked
Check whether you are blocking referral URLs by clicking: http://search.epnet.com/testauth.aspx. If you do not see any values in "Referring URL=", your computer contains software products that block referral URLs.

Check for firewalls blocking resources
To add exceptions or turn on / off your Windows firewall, please refer to the following choices based on your computer's Operating System:
If you know how to manually open ports, adjust your Windows firewall to allow connections to ports 2048-2200.
Check the manual of your home networking devices (wireless access points or broadband routers) to determine if they include built-in hardware firewalls.

If you encounter difficulties accessing our digital resources, disable your firewall temporarily or adjust your firewall to allow connections to ports 2048-2200.
At Work or Another Library?
If you are using a computer that is part of another network (office, school, institution), it is possible that their network's firewall is blocking access to Seneca resources. You will have to speak with their service desk or IT staff and let them know that you require access to ports 2048-2200.
Make sure Java is installed / enabled on your browser
Some resources (e.g., CSA's PsycARTICLES) may use Java applets and require you to have the latest Java version on your browser.

4. Other suggestions.
- Try accessing another Seneca Libraries databases / resource. If only one resource is inaccessible it may mean that this particular resource is temporarily down - please try again later or/and email us at LibraryTechHelp@senecacollege.ca.
- If your access problem persists for more than a day, complete our online problem report form or send an email describing your problem (screenshots, error messages) and information about your browser and computer to LibraryTechHelp@senecacollege.ca.
