FAQs - How to Apply

How do I know if I am eligible to apply for a MILE course?

All registered day students at Seneca College are encouraged to apply for a MILE course. Depending on the course, there may be requirements that students must meet (i.e. English language). Our goal is to enable every Seneca student to experience the benefits of a MILE course.

If you are a first year student,
you should consider a MILE after you complete your first semester. We do not recommend MILE courses for first semester students.

If you are an international student,
you are eligible to apply for a MILE course. For more information please check the course tuition section. We encourage international students to consider MILE courses outside of their home country, as the goal is to learn about new cultures, histories and customs.

If you are a graduating student
, please note the timing of the MILE course you are considering. MILE credits are granted at specific times and students are responsible for understanding how the timing of your MILE course will impact your graduation goals.

If you are a degree student
, please contact the faculty lead for the MILE course you are interested in to see if an LSO credit is being offered.

Please refer to the MILE course chart for more information.

If I am eligible, how do I apply for a MILE course?

If you are interested in a MILE course, the first step is to complete the MILE application form listed on the MILE course chart.

The faculty coordinator(s) will review your application and respond to you directly about next steps, including adding the MILE course to your timetable. Once you are accepted you will need to ask your faculty coordinator of the School of English & Liberal Studies (SELS) Office in B3000 to register for the course once SIRIS opens. If you are applying for more than one MILE, you must fill out a separate form for each MILE and send it to the appropriate faculty coordinator(s).

What do I do after I have been accepted for a MILE course?

Once you are accepted into a MILE course the course will be added to your timetable. At this time, students cannot register for MILE courses directly. Students can ask the MILE faculty coordinator to do this, or go to room B3000 (Newnham campus) and ask the Academic Support Officer (ASO) to add the MILE course.

You will also be required to attend a mandatory orientation session led by your MILE faculty coordinator(s). Here, information will be given concerning academic expectations and requirements, along with your travel itinerary details.
