Polytechnics Showcase

Date: November 27, 2009

Location: Markham Campus

The 4th Annual Polytechnics Canada Science and Technology Showcase revealed applied research projects conducted by students and faculty of Polytechnics member institutions in support of industry innovation. In addition to short presentations of research solutions conducted for small and medium sized enterprises, there was a policy panel discussion on the important role that polytechnics
and colleges play in preparing Canada’s future workforce for industry innovation, through
student involvement in applied research projects. Several keynote speeches marked the day, including the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Hon. Gary Goodyear and John Breakey, CEO of UNIS LUMIN. More information can be found at www.polytechnicscanada.ca/showcase

April 24, 2009 - Joe Gordon receives two travel awards from ICRH
Joe Gordon, Professor of Nursing, received two travel awards from the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) to present abstracts of his PhD research in a poster session at the Young Investigators (YI) Forum in Ottawa (May 21-23, 2009). Professor Gordon's PhD research focused on the biological basis on vascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis. Winners of the poster session will be selected by judges and be asked to give a 10-minute oral presentation on the last day of the conference.

March 31, 2009 - CONII receives $10 million over 3 years to assist SMEs

CONII Celebration The Ontario Government announces in its 2009 provincial budget that the Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII) will receive $10 million over three years to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with hands-on applied research, technology transfer and commercialization. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of CONII - a network of 10 colleges - SMEs become more competitive and stay competitive in a challenging, ever changing global economy. Congratulations to CONII and to Katharine Janzen's leadership!
