  • A missed in-class test, quiz or assignment will receive a zero grade.
  • Appropriately reference the source of all material used to support your arguments with footnotes or end notes and a bibliography.
  • Assignments will be marked for the accuracy of the content and appropriate business format including, but not limited to, correct usage of English grammar, referencing and spelling.  Marks will be deducted for grammatical, spelling and proofreading errors.  NOTE:  It is your responsibility to keep a copy of all work for your records.  If you need to produce this and cannot, you will receive a grade of zero.

Term Work:  In Class/Lab Group Exercises/ Case Analysis

Students may be assigned Group Business Planning Exercises that apply the concepts learned in the required reading to developing some aspect of a business plan for a new venture including roles and responsibilities of group members.  In some instances, case analysis and scenario based critical thinking skills will be practiced. This, or similar types of group work, will constitute 20% of the final grade.  The marks for this portion of your evaluation will be distributed throughout the term.  Those who attend class will benefit the most from this portion.

Group Contract:

Term work marks may be allowed for this activity.  It may also form the basis of your peer evaluation that has a value of 5% (this will be discussed further in class).  When you take the time to create a meaningful contract document as outlined by your professor, your team will more likely be rewarded in the end with a better-prepared Business Plan.  You will have benefitted from the managerial/leadership aspects of the exercise as well as the guidance it will offer when team activities go awry.

Week 5/6 Term Test I

Students will write a term test (part A) in Week 5 that will cover all materials and learning outcomes covered in the first half of the semester including; Chapters 1,2,4,10, 5 and Appendix B Developing a Business Plan.  Part A will cover the breadth of the contest testing knowledge and comprehension in the form of multiple choice (MC) questions and/or matching the terms from all chapters.  To be written in a 50 minute timeframe with a value = 10%.  Part B (week 6) will focus on testing application, evaluation and synthesis skills through case analysis and/or short answer (SA) questions.  The question format of this test will be consistent across all sections and campuses;  however, the content may vary with individual professors.  Approximately 3 to 5 questions in 50 minutes for a value = 15%.

Week 10/11 Term Test II

Students will write a term test (part A) in Week 10 that will cover all materials and learning outcomes covered from Chapters 9, 13, 6, 11, 8 and 12.  Part A will cover the breadth of the content testing knowledge and comprehension in the form of multiple choice questions and/or matching the terms from all chapters.  40 questions in 50 minutes for a value = 10%.  Part B will focus on testing application, evaluation and synthesis skills through case analysis and/or short answer questions.  The question format of this test will be consistent across all sections and campuses;  however, the content may vary with individual professors.  50 minutes for 3 out of 5 questions for a value = 15%.

Business Plan

Due in Week 12 of the semester, the Business Plan conform to the rubric for how the plan will be evaluated.  The Evaluation Criteria Rubric is located under Course Documents in Blackboard.  Your professor will direct you to follow a suitable model for writing the business plan.  Students may be asked to prepare and present a 10 minute power point slide show of their Executive Summary and receive feedback from fellow classmates in Week 12.  Total Value = 25%.

Peer Evaluation

Students will be asked to perform a peer evaluation of group members' participation in the development of the Business Plan assignment.  The peer evaluation will affect each individual 's final mark on the Business Plan Assignment.  The group members are rewarded based on their individual inputs towards the efforts of the group as a whole.  The peer evaluation is due in the feedback meeting with your professor in the last week of classes and is worth 5%.

You may be penalized by 5% for NOT ATTENDING THE FINAL MEETING WITH YOUR PROFESSOR.
