Program Description

The Financial Technology Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed to respond to industry demand by providing students the unique set of skills needed to work with the innovative and disruptive technologies used in the financial services sector. Students will be introduced to financial services and products, privacy management, financial ledger technology, cybersecurity, web application and mobile development as well as business management. Throughout the program, students gain knowledge in subjects such as product development and entrepreneurship while developing an understanding of privacy, ethics and the regulatory landscape in which financial technology innovation exists.

Note: This program is completed by distance with three one week-long residential sessions in Toronto scheduled at the beginning of the program, between terms and at the end of the program. Distance classes will run via web conferencing at scheduled times to allow working professionals to complete the program.  A computer (recent model, recommended less than 2 years old) with internet access and up-to-date Windows, MacOS, or Linux operating system.  A webcam and use of a headset is recommended for using the video conferencing technology.

As an International student you are required to have a study permit for the three residency periods. International students in the FNT program do not qualify to work while in Canada and do not qualify for a post-graduation work permit. Also see: Study permits: Other considerations.

This Seneca program has been validated by the Credential Validation Service as an Ontario College Credential as required by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility

This is cross-disciplinary program.  Successful applicants will have one of the following:

  • Ontario university or college degree – Bachelor of Commerce – (or equivalent) in finance or financial services; or an Ontario college diploma (or equivalent) in finance with a minimum three full years of experience in financial services. For the latter, a resume and references will be required.
  • Ontario university or college degree (or equivalent) in computer science or software engineering; or an Ontario college diploma (or equivalent) in computer programming with a minimum three full years of experience in financial services. For the latter, a resume and references will be required.

We will consider applicants with five years of full time experience in financial services. A resume and references will be required.

Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at the Graduate Certificate level.

Program Details

The Degree and Credit Transfer Office provides a number of services for students continuing their education at Seneca, and for graduating students considering degree transfer options.

Through transfer agreements and institution partnerships, graduates of this Seneca College program may be eligible for credit at various post-secondary institutions. Please refer to the Degree Transfer Guide for more information.

Transfer Credit may be granted for courses deemed equivalent to courses at Seneca that have been completed at recognized postsecondary institutions. Additional information is available online.
