On January 1, 2016, insurance regulators across Canada, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), implemented a streamlined and updated entry level qualification program for new life licence insurance agents, and new accident and sickness insurance agents. This initiative was called the Harmonized Life Licence Qualification Program (HLLQP) and it involved replacing several different provincial educational standards with one common standard that is now being used across Canada.
The Accident & Sickness course prepares students for a career selling health and accident and sickness insurance but not life insurance products. Persons wishing to become a licensed A&S agent must first, successfully complete the specialized training of the LLQP training course offered by an authorized course provider. This step is also referred to as the “Qualifying or Certification” process. After completion, students will challenge the LLQP exam that will cover the curriculum and materials presented in the qualifying LLQP training course. All LLQP exams in Ontario are administered by Durham College.
