Students who complete the Firefighter, Pre-Service program are eligible to write the provincial firefighter exam to become employed as firefighters in Ontario. Emphasis is on the student's ability to apply knowledge and skills related to fire suppression and first response, including crisis management. Students develop the problem-solving and communication skills that are critical to work successfully on a firefighting team.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to write the OFM (Office of the Fire Marshal) Provincial test.
The Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), under the auspices of the Ontario Professional Standards Setting Body, endorse the content of Seneca's Pre-Service Firefighter program.
Recognized by the Canadian Fire Safety Association, the Fire Safety program will interest a wide range of participants from the building and fire industry who are involved with design, construction, safety, and security.
Aspects of life safety, fire science theory and principles are covered in relation to home, commerce and industry.
Fire Alarm Technician
The Fire Alarm Technician programs allows students to mee the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) requiremenit that fire alarm technicians complete a five-subject, theory-based program of study plus one year's work with another experienced technician in order to become certified to work in this field (to ensure that fire alarm technicians are competent in their ability to test, inspect and maintain fire alarms). The first four subjects are the prerequisite for the fifth. Students must achieve a minimum grade of 60% for the subject to be credited by the CFAA toward certification.
Fire Protection Systems
The Fire Protection Systems provides a complete overview of fire protection systems and applications required by personnel responsible for the fire and life safety of others. This program will interest fire safety and building operations personnel.
The Sprinkler Design program will be of interest to existing designers who want to upgrade their skills as well as future designers who want to enter the field. The courses will also be useful for AHJ's and those who perform plans review.
