Fire Protection Engineering Technician and Fire Protection Engineering Technology FAQs

If you have any questions that are not answered below, please feel free to contact our student admissions department or the Seneca Fire Protection office directly.

What is your placement rate?

Our placement rate has been 100% for the last 4 years in the 3 year program.

Does it matter whether I apply for the two-year or three-year program?

No, the first semester is common to both programs and at the end of the first semester the student selects which program to complete.

Is this a firefighting course?

The strategy that Seneca has elected to follow is to incorporate the fire fighting courses into the two-year Fire Protection Diploma Program. This allows the student to choose from several career options at graduation, if fire department opportunities are not available.

Do I have to go into the United States to find employment?

No, our program is widely recognized in both Canada and the United States. It is the choice of the graduate as to location of employment.

What are my career choices?

The following career choices in fire protection are available to graduates:

  • Fire fighting
  • Fire alarm installation, service and inspection
  • Design, installation or inspection of sprinkler systems
  • Loss control management in the insurance industry
  • Fire protection engineering offices

Is this a hands-on program?

The diploma programs combine both lecture and labs in most courses. Hands-on experiences are encouraged in the student’s training.
