South Africa – Learning Abroad

Third semester hospitality and tourism students are taking part in a 10-week trip to South Africa that includes four-week work placements at a game park and a hotel in the country's largest city.

The students, pictured left at the new Nelson Mandela statue at the Parliament buildings in Pretoria, are shown taking part in an orientation and sighting seeing period, before getting to work.

They will work in two groups, with each group spending four weeks at the Zulu Nyala Heritage Lodge, in Hluhluwe, and the Amanzingwe Lodge in Hartbeespoort Dam.

Student blogs

Students, including Meagan and Monique, are blogging about their time in South Africa. Check out their photos and thoughts about this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It's not all work

Even though the students will be working during their stay, there's still some time for fun.

They will have the opportunity to see a number of local tourism attractions - including the furry ones. This video shows the students and Professor Debbie Brannan visiting with Lion Cubs.
