Attend our comprehensive Flight Instructor Refresher Course

Presented by Canada’s leading flight training institution; join our course faculty consisting of Aviation Professors, Professional Instructors and Transport Canada Inspectors for three or four days of professional development and comprehensive learning. Our Flight Instructor Refresher Course was Transport Canada’s first approved course and provides you an opportunity to renew your Flight Instructor Rating as per CARs 421.66.


The Seneca Advantage

We provide 3 days, with an optional 4th day of advanced training that cannot be matched. Our course is open to anyone who holds a Pilot’s Licence. Our course is held at Seneca’s newest campus in Markham just south of the Buttonville airport (CYKZ) and allows us to offer training in our state of the art campus, hangar facilities and flight simulators. Unlike traditional flight instructor refresher courses, our course allows you to work directly with our Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in the hangar using the Seneca fleet of aircraft. Rather than sitting in the classroom for the duration of the course, Seneca has flight simulator time built into the refresher course. Participants have the opportunity to participate in scenario based training work with our Beechcraft Baron, Beechcraft Bonanza, Cessna 172S, Cessna 172 G1000, X-Bird Crosswind Trainer and Bombardier CRJ flight simulators. As a course participant you also have the option on attend a fourth day of advanced learning in our Flight Instructor Professional Development Course.


Want to become a Class IV Flight Instructor?

Our course is open to anyone who holds a Pilot’s Licence. If you are interested in becoming a Class IV Flight Instructor, then this course may provide additional training for the rating. Many former course participants have indicated that this course would have been beneficial when training for the Class IV Instructor Rating. Please register now as space is limited to gain valuable information for flight instructor trainees.


Flight Instructor Professional Development Course

Join the faculty at Seneca for a day of Advanced Instructor Training. The content covered in this Flight Instructor Professional Development Course exceeds the requirements of the Flight Instructor Refresher Course and is designed for Instructors who want more than just the standard three day refresher course or for Instructors who want to improve their knowledge and skill as a Flight Instructor. If you are planning on attending our Flight Instructor Refresher Course, please join us for an optional fourth day which exceeds Transport Canada’s minimums and offers Flight Instructors cutting edge training and teaching techniques. The course tuition fee is $150 plus HST, however, if you are enrolling in our Flight Instructor Refresher Course, the tuition fee is only $70 tax free. More information


Can I Renew my Flight Instructor Rating?

You can qualify to renew your Aeroplane Flight Instructor Rating if:

  • You hold a VALID flight instructor rating on the first day of the course
  • Your previous two renewals were NOT through means other than a flight test; or
  • You are NOT undergoing follow-up actions with respect to your flight test record and the action specifies a need for a flight test (CARs 421.67).
  • You can obtain your flight test record status directly from your local Transport Canada Centre or Flight Training Inspector to determine if you qualify for renewal.
