Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with:

Grade 12 English: ENG4(C) or ENG4(U)

Grade 12 Mathematics: (C) or (U) or Grade 11 Mathematics: (U) or (M)

OR Mature Student Status (age 19 or older) with the above prerequisite course(s), their equivalent(s) or appropriate Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate program credits (see Academic Upgrading).

Please note: The safety of our students and divers is top priority. Students must be able to clearly communicate in English in written and oral form. Students are required to relay and receive vital safety information in English, in accordance with the CSA Standard 275.4, Competency Standard for Diving, Hyperbaric Chamber, and Remotely Operated Vehicle Operations.

Additional Requirements

Pre-Admission English and math test (Test Fee $55)

PRIOR to the beginning of class, students must possess:

  • Open Water Recreational Scuba Certification by a recognized agency, with 20 logged and stamped dives, spanning 10 hours of bottom time. (must be completed by the first day of classes NOT a prerequisite to apply)*
  • Diving Medical: All Commercial Divers and trainees must pass a stringent hyperbaric medical from an approved physician prior to training. It is advised to hold off getting a medical done until you have been accepted into the program.

A list of approved physicians may be found on the Diver Certification Board of Canada website.

MEDICALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF THE PHYSCIAN IS NOT ON THE APPROVED LIST.

*If you are unable to meet the minimum required dive hours, we offer a Scuba prep week in late August, but is NOT a substitute for Open Water Certification
