York University CUPE 3903 on strike: Seneca@York classes continue

York University teaching assistants, contract faculty and graduate assistants represented by CUPE 3903 are on strike, potentially affecting our Seneca@York community.

York University and our Seneca@York Campus will remain open during the strike. Seneca will maintain normal operations and you are expected to attend classes as scheduled.

Please allow extra time and exercise caution as picket lines are expected to form at the major intersections leading onto campus. Please read our picket line information and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) so you have an idea of what to expect.

Unfortunately, public transit bus routes will be affected by picket lines. To help, York will post public transit updates on its strike website. We encourage you to take advantage of the new York University Station subway access as the most direct option for getting to and from Seneca@York. Seneca’s shuttle bus will continue to serve Seneca@York but will likely be affected by traffic delays in the area. We encourage you to monitor our Campus Shuttle page for any changes to the schedule or pick-up and drop-off locations. We have been informed that Wheel-Trans is still expected to travel onto campus. If you are a student with a disability who requires further assistance, please contact Counselling and Accessibility Services.

We will make every effort to ensure academic continuity for Seneca students taking joint York programs or planning a pathway to York after this term. If there are any changes due to the strike, Seneca students will be contacted directly.

Frequent updates will be posted on York’s strike website, Facebook and Twitter feed.

If you have general questions, you can email dean.students@senecacollege.ca or visit Student Services. If you have any concerns or experience a problem at a picket line, please call York’s hotline: 416-736-5151.
