Autism Spectrum Disorder - ASD

Subject Description
Students will be introduced to the five major disorders of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students will learn to assess and evaluate the characteristics and skills of individuals with ASD. Community services and support system networks for individuals with ASD and their families will be provided.

Credit Status
One credit toward Working with Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder Recognition of Achievement Certificate.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Provide a brief overview of the five major disorders in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

2. Discuss the theories related to the causes of autism.

3. Explain, assess and evaluate the characteristics and skills of individuals with ASD.

4. Discuss community services and support systems for individuals with ASD and their families.

An assignment to be handed in within a week of attending the workshop will be given out to receive a SAT or UNSAT grade.

Assignment to be handed in by end date of the workshop - 70%
