Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Inspection

Subject Description
Emphasis in this subject is on cooling systems and heat pumps. Students learn to identify typical defects and apply correct inspection techniques.

One credit in the Home Inspection Certificate Program

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Inspect the following to identify type, material, condition, safety concerns and other issues: cooling systems, cooling distribution systems, and residential heat pumps.
2. Identify the common problems that apply to each cooling/heat pump system component named, as well as the causes and implications of each problem.
3. Describe the inspection procedures involved with each component.
4. Define and use proper terminology related to cooling systems and heat pumps.

Modes of Evaluation
Since this is a professional credit subject, marking standards reinforce professional practice by demanding legible, tidy work. Written assignments should be well organized and grammatically correct, with proper spelling and punctuation. Late assignments are penalized. Please obtain standards, dates and additional information from your instructor. 

You should be aware that absenteeism will almost guarantee your inability to achieve satisfactory grades. Some of the progress tests and quizzes may not be announced in advance and details of assignment requirements may be explained in class. There is no formal provision for make-up tests to replace tests you miss. 

To attain a passing grade for the subject, a student must complete and obtain a passing grade on all combined assignments and tests.  50% is a passing grade.
