Setting up childcare,nursery,after school program

Subject Description
This workshop is designed to provide the student with a general understanding of the process involved when considering the operation of an Early Childhood Education Centre in Ontario.

Credit Status
One credit towards a Setting Up Your Own Childcare, Nursery School, After School Program Recognition of Achievement

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Analyze the elements of a quality, licensed childcare program in Ontario.

2. Demonstrate a general understanding of the procedures to open a childcare program.

3. Examine the administration of a licensed childcare program.

Prerequisite(s)
While an ECE diploma/ degree is not required to take these workshops, it is strongly suggested that participants have some knowledge of early childhood education.

Topic Outline
This is an overview of the the set up and operation of a licensed childcare program in Ontario. The basic information of the following topics will be described.  More specific detailed information of all topics will be discussed in future workshops.

Description of a quality childcare program in Ontario
- the physical set up of a quality childcare program
- the curriculum of a quality childcare program

Define licensing a childcare program in Ontario
- municipal and provincial requirements
- Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario
- Organizational structure of the program administration

Setting up a childcare program
- Define a business plan
- Location and marketing
- Hiring and maintaining staff

Mode of Instruction
This workshop will use a variety of methods including personal experiences, hand outs, discussion, question and answer.
