Subject Description
This workshop is designed to provide a detailed understanding of the Provincial and Municipal licensing involved when considering the operation of an Early Childhood Education Centre in Ontario.

Credit Status
One credit towards a Setting Up Your Own Childcare, Nursery School, After School Program Recognition of Achievement

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Analyze the requirements from the Municipal level of government for childcare programs operations.

2. Analyze the requirements from the Provincial level of government (Ontario) for childcare program operations.

3. Examine the Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario

Prerequisite(s)
ECD090 - Intro to Setting up a Childcare, After School or Nursery School Program

Knowledge of Early Childhood Education is recommended but not essential. Workshop presenters will assume that participants have some knowledge of the ECE profession

Topic Outline
This workshop details the procedures needed to apply for licensing of a childcare program.  The requirements of both the municipal level of government and the province of Ontario will be examined, as will the Child Care and Early Years Act legislation and its application will be discussed.

Municipal licensing requirements
- Zoning by-laws
- Fire, health and safety regulations
- Budgetary and organizational procedures

Provincial licensing requirements and CCEYA
- Staffing qualifications and ratios
- Physical set-up
- Programming and philosophy
- Child Care and Early Years Act application

Mode of Instruction
This workshop will use a variety of methods including personal experiences, hand outs, discussion, question and answer.
