Subject Title
Planning and Operations

Subject Description
The goal of this subject is to prepare the meeting planner for responsibilities at a professional and managerial level. Emphasis will include operational analysis and control, with an in-depth look at topics such as contracts, budgets, food and beverage, transportation, accommodation and insurance.

Credit Status
One Full Credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Use the analysis of a group and the history of the past meeting.
2. Create meeting objectives and explain how they influence conference programming.
3. Prepare a request for proposal and outline the steps that need to be taken through the site selection process.
4. Negotiate with facilities and services.
5. Determine and outline physical and set up requirements for a meeting.
6. Explain budget philosophy and develop a budget for a conference.
7. Prepare requirements for special services.
8. Create time lines, formats and agendas.
9. Create a program.
10. Explain what must be incorporated into on-site management.
11. Develop a conference evaluation form.

Modes of Evaluation
Assignments are due on the dates specified. Should extenuating circumstances arise, please contact your instructor prior to the assignment due date so that an appropriate course of action can be established. Late assignments may be subject to a penalty of up to 10% per week and will not generally be accepted beyond two weeks from the due date.

In cases of cheating or plagiarism, the College Academic Policy will prevail. Please ensure that all assignments and reports are properly documented.

Dates for evaluations are specified in the weekly schedule addendum to this outline. The evaluation process may include, but is not limited to, tests, exams, assignments or presentations. Any absences or missed submissions due to medical or other reasons must be supported by medical or other appropriate documentation within one (1) week of the due date. The faculty and program area must be notified immediately in the event of a missed evaluation. Upon acceptance of the documentation, the weighting of the missed deliverable will normally be applied to the final exam.

English Competency

Grading is based on the following marking scheme:

Assignments / Exercises / Quizzes 70%
Participation in Discussion Board Topics: a minimum of one contribution to each topic, either an original idea or response to another's contribution is required 10%
Final Exam* 20%

* Final Exams:  The final exam for online courses must be written at the Test Centre of the College at which you registered. If you are unable to do so, please make alternative arrangements through the College at which you registered. All the academic policies of the College at which you registered apply.
