Social Media Capstone

Subject Description
This Capstone subject will include a look at the future of social media and require active participation and engagement with digital thought leaders and other resources. 

Credit Status
SMD300 is a compulsory credit subject for students in the Social Media Graduate Certificate. It is a pre-requisite for the remaining courses in the Social Media Graduate Certificate.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Explain ideas with clarity and precision both in writing and orally.
  2. Demonstrate information and digital literacy in the use of social media use for communication and audience engagement.
  3. Use critical thinking skills to contribute to a social media team within an organization.
  4. Show concern for individual differences (cultural, socioeconomic, global, etc.) in your social media decisions and actions.
  5. Advocate for ethical and responsible social media usage as a necessary part of an organization’s best practices.
  6. Analyze market and organizational fluctuations in order to adjust social media usage. 
  7. Propose high quality social media marketing campaigns to promote or advocate for an idea or product.
  8. Evaluate social media usage by organizations and individuals to determine the most effective communication strategies.

Modes of Evaluation
Assignments are due on the dates specified. Should extenuating circumstances arise, please contact your instructor prior to the assignment due date so that an appropriate course of action can be established. Late assignments may be subject to a penalty of up to 10% per week and will not generally be accepted beyond two weeks from the due date.
 
In cases of cheating or plagiarism, the College Academic Policy will prevail. Please ensure that all assignments and reports are properly documented.

Dates for evaluations are specified in the weekly schedule addendum to this outline. The evaluation process may include, but is not limited to, tests, exams, assignments or presentations. Any absences or missed submissions due to medical or other reasons must be supported by medical or other appropriate documentation within one (1) week of the due date. The faculty and program area must be notified immediately in the event of a missed evaluation. Upon acceptance of the documentation, the weighting of the missed deliverable will normally be applied to the final exam.
 
English Competency
The ability to communicate effectively is essential for success in business. Therefore, you must demonstrate English competency in this course in both oral and written work. Ensure your written work includes correct sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. Always spell check, edit and proofread your work.
