College Survival Tips

Here are a few tips that will help you get started:

  • Attend Orientation
  • Ask for help when you need it
  • Know that it is normal to feel lonely, isolated and homesick – it will get better
  • Develop a good support system
    • Family
    • Make new friends
    • Keep old friends
    • Learn about all the services available to you on campus
  • Get Involved! Take part in all the activities you can
  • Go to class and be on time – this will have a positive affect on your grades
  • Keep the lines of communication open with your professors, classmates, and roommates
  • Stay healthy – you will need your energy levels to be running at optimum
    • Get enough sleep
    • Eat a well balanced diet – fast food will not give you the nutrition you need
    • Moderate your alcohol and caffeine consumption
    • Visit the on-campus health centre to get information on nutrition and other health related issues
    • Exercise regularly
