Teaching English as a Second Language
Seneca’s full-time intensive Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Program for university graduates offered at the Newnham Campus, puts a world of opportunities in your hands.
Our graduates have the knowledge, skills and confidence to teach language learners in a variety of programs both locally and abroad.
Dedicated Professors with extensive language teaching and TESL training experience deliver a practical, hands-on, innovative curriculum that builds your ability to diagnose learners’ levels in reference to the Canadian Language Benchmarks and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that support development and evaluation of listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation skills. You learn to create skill-building and skill-using task-based lesson plans; skill-based lesson plans, and assessments used in portfolio based learning assessment (PBLA).
The fully arranged integrated practicum provided in Seneca’s well-recognized English Language Institute’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes within the GTA uniquely positions candidates to experience different types of teaching and provides them with connections for employment upon graduation. Practicum placements require a current Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
Our graduates can apply to TESL Ontario to be Ontario Certified English Language Teachers (OCELT) eligible to teach in Ontario, Canada and Worldwide and also to TESL Canada for Standard II Accreditation.
If you have a three-year university degree or Canadian equivalent, native English speaking proficiency or proof of advanced English proficiency and want to fulfill your dream to teach English, apply. Tuition fees are tax deductible for domestic students (T2202A).
